Message from the CEO, July 6, 2007
It's hard to believe that my first week as CEO is all but over. While it has gone by very quickly it's been an informative and productive seven days. I have to thank all of you for the much appreciated warm Baycrest welcome.
As some of you may know, I flew into Toronto last Saturday and used the weekend to settle into my office, and as an opportunity to walk about this great organization and meet members of the Baycrest community before the official work week began. One of the most rewarding experiences was attending the Sunday Concert in the Winter Garden which not only provided me with an opportunity to meet many families and clients, but to enjoy what is clearly a special event.
A good part of the work week was then dedicated to strategizing on how I can most effectively introduce myself to the entire Baycrest community and engage everyone in helping me to understand both our strengths and the things we need to change. I call this my "Listening Tour" and it will begin next week as I start to invite groups of people to meet with me to provide perspectives and advice on how we can grow and do better so we can achieve our vision.
In addition, I am planning to attend as many events and meetings as possible so I can introduce myself to all of you and help you to understand, not just who I am, but also why I came to Baycrest, my mandate, action plan as well as values and expectations. This, I suppose, could be called my "Talking Tour". My preference is to do as much communicating in person as possible but I will also share updates on my action plan, and as importantly stories from my orientation to Baycrest, via "Bill's Journal".
Dr. William E. Reichman
Baycrest President and CEO
