Art & Design

The physical environment plays an important role in our lives, and that’s why we have paid extra attention to the design of the Apotex Centre building. Here are some special features that may be of interest to you, your family and friends:

• Your Apotex Centre Neighbourhood has a name that relates to artwork displayed at the entrance to your area and also on the door-plate of your room.
• The glassed-in cabinet outside your room allows you to display decorative objects, special mementos and photos. This helps staff and others learn a little bit more about you and the important things in your life. The display cabinet may also make it easier for some residents to find their rooms.
• Hallway ceilings have specially designed soft lighting to help you to see more clearly.
• The special handrails that look so elegant are very strong and easy to grip. Built-in seating provides a place for residents and vistiors to rest and look around.

The artwork on display in the Apotex Centre and throughout Baycrest enhances quality of life for everyone who spends time here – residents, family members, staff and volunteers. It’s there for the pleasure of all, to encourage discussion and to provide natural places to gather. Every painting, photograph, mural, sculpture and textile on display has been received as a gift from members of the community – either in the form of actual artworks themselves or as funds for special projects.
