Infection Prevention and Control
The goal of our Infection Control team is to prevent and control infections among our patients by educating them, their families, other visitors, Baycrest staff and volunteers on the principles and techniques of infection control.
If a patient has a transmissible infection, our infection prevention and control coordinator will work closely with the Care Team. In some cases, signs will be posted on patients’ doors to remind everyone about taking certain precautions such as hand washing. Fact Sheets about various infections are available from the nursing staff.
If an outbreak of infectious illness occurs – for example, influenza – the families of affected patients will be notified. You may see special notices posted on your floor or on the doors of some patient rooms. Information may also be posted throughout the Hospital. In such an event, you can stay informed by calling our Hot Line at 416-785-2500 extension 4444 and/or by consulting the Family page of the Baycrest web site at www.baycrest.org.
Flu shots are recommended in the late fall and early winter months for you, your family and any Private Companion involved in your care. Patients receive their flu shots from their Baycrest physician. Visitors may be immunized at our on-site fall flu shot clinic which operates during flu season.
