Medications
The most common form of treatment is with medication.
At present, there are several approved medications that are being used. It is important to remember that these medications are not a cure for dementia although they may help improve or stabilize some of the symptoms.
The hope is that the medications will help improve the quality of life of people with dementia.
Other Options
Other specialized activities or services may help people cope with symptoms of dementia and enhance quality of life.
Your healthcare team may recommend one or more of the following services:
- Day programs that encourage involvement in social and leisure activities.
- Support groups for people with dementia and their caregivers. These groups can provide support while teaching strategies for coping with everyday challenges.
- Specialized interventions and training in areas such as health promotion, memory strategies, physical activity and structuring daily routines.
