Go easy on the salt

As you age, your taste buds become less sensitive and you may find yourself reaching for the salt shaker more often.

Try not to. Dietary salt intake has been linked to high blood pressure. Even a pinch less salt can make a difference.

Instead of salt try:

  • Using unsalted butter or margarine  Salt
  • Gradually decreasing the amount of salt you cook with by two-thirds
  • Instead of adding salt for flavour use herbs, spices, lemon, vinegar and wine
