Putting your best foot forward


Keeping your feet comfortable and pain free can be a challenge as we age. Unfortunately, when your feet are sore, the rest of you feels miserable too. For those people who are active, this can prevent them from participating in certain activities.

People walkingSome foot problems are minor and others can stem from something more serious such as poor circulation. This can be a result of smoking, diabetes, blood vessel disease or inactivity.

Here are some tips to help you stay on your feet.

If you’re prone to minor foot problems such as calluses:

  • Make sure your shoes fit properly
  • Use protective pads on corns, calluses and bunions

You can increase circulation by:

  • Give your feet a gentle foot massage – or even better, pamper yourself and find someonewho will massage your feet for you.
  • Have a warm foot bath – but remember to avoid very hot water. Keep the temperature to the level of soothing warmth.
