Getting the most out of your doctor’s appointment
Do you often feel rushed during your appointment with your doctor?
In order to get the most out of your time – BE PREPARED.
- A thoughtful list prepared ahead of time can be used both as a reminder and an agenda for your appointment.
- When booking your appointment, let the secretary know that you have a number of items to discuss. She may give you a longer appointment.
- Listen to the answers. It may be helpful to take brief notes and review them later.
- Don’t feel pressured to get through the entire list in one visit. Determine your priorities and if there isn’t enough time, you can always schedule another appointment.
- Take the time to write down clear notes about your symptoms, what makes them worse, what makes them better and how they are affecting your life in general.
- Bring a list of all of your medications including vitamins, herbal preparations and supplements.
- Bring along a relative or friend to provide you with support and an extra set of ears.
