Following the premiere edition of If Not Now (Winter 2000) I received some very encouraging e-mail with both congratulations and helpful suggestions. Some are duplicated here and I invite further discussion on this edition's contents.
Based on much of the feedback, the Summer Fall edition will focus on Issues for Descendants of Survivors. Submissions are invited.
Dear Paula,
Kol Hakavod on your new Internet version of "If Not Now!" Great to see you've moved into the new technology!! I think this msg was sent to our clinic list w/a cc to us (we also received a separate mailing) so I won't have to advise Natan Kellermann, but I am cc'ing Natan Durst in case he hasn't seen it. I will of course keep you advised of various events and announcement from AMCHA that you might be able to put in the newsletter (perhaps you could have some sort of announcements/news from readers section or something like that) at your discretion of course and when we update our site within the next few months I will of course keep you on our e-mail list.
Best of luck with the newsletter and I'm sure our staffers will take advantage of it.
All the best,
Adina Mishkoff

Dear Colleague,
I received your message from February 23 and I wish to congratulate you for your good idea.
Let me introduce you to Elah, a non-profit organisation founded twenty years ago in order to assist Israelis from Dutch origin. The initiative of founding Elah was a direct result from the pain suffered by Jewish Dutch survivors from the concentration camps and horrors of the Holocaust.
The psycho-sociological help needed by Dutch Jews in Israel is provided by Dutch speaking professionals and involves a.o. individual psycho-therapy, creativity and discussion groups, seminars, a magazine, a volunteers project, movie clubs, and family counselling.
We are interested in ongoing contact with you, and wish you a happy Passover.
All the best,
Yours sincerely,
Jose Bennaroch,
Director. ELAH
Paula,
Congratulations on providing the leadership for this amazing and worthwhile initiative!! It is excellent. I read with interest Dr. Gordon's piece re: interviewing, it certainly had some interesting information for health care professionals.
Have you thought of having an on-line discussion groups (similar to other internet sites) where people post comments, thoughts, questions?? I'm sure you have just wondering if you think this journal lends itself to that kind of forum.

Dear Paula,
I am glad to hear from you, and especially pleased that "If Not Now..." has been revised in cyberpress. At the time, edited by Sarah Faerman (where is she these days?) it was a real contribution.
Although not directly involved with Holocaust issues these days, I am still interested, of course, and will try to look at it and keep up.

Dear Paula:
Just a brief note to tell you that I am very pleased to see your new initiative. My interest is twofold:
I am an aging Holocaust survivor and immediate past-President of Kol Israel, the association of Holocaust survivors in the Cleveland area. I am still working. I am Professor of Social Work at Cleveland State University and one of my interest areas in which I have done research and writing (the only cross national study of Holocaust survivors in the U.S. and Israel) is the area of extreme stress and aging.
For now my best wishes are with you.

I am interested in receiving anything you want to publish.

It helps to have as much info as possible. I'm a rabbinical student, a 2nd-gen survivor, and am currently taking a law class on Jewish and common law understandings of restitution.

Dear paula,
I've read "if not now". The idea of a journal dedicated to the issue is great! Thank you very much.

Just to let you know I read this and will share the site with my 2G group next week. We are in Boston, MA and many children are dealing with placement of parents in long term care facilities.
Thank G-d I never had to go through that, my mother would not have been a good candidate for a nursing facility.

Dear Paula David,
Thank you for informing the public about Baycrest's new site "If Not Now..." newsletter. I believe I saw your notice on two internet sites-- 2ndGen Mail List, and JewishAnnouncemnts, I think. I am very appreciative of this work. As I work with children of survivors in various capacities, as well as the global issues and needs around this subject (via a service I founded, via the local organizations, via my psychotherapy practice, and more), the newsletter will be invaluable for me. The first article I am looking at is on "mothers and daughters..." and have just started. I look forward to all of them.
Thank you very much. Your hard work is appreciated. I wish you ongoing strength and courage!
Be well,
Lillian Fox
