Volume 2, Spring 2001 - If Not Now e-journal
This is the fifth edition of If Not Now, the e-Journal dedicated to professional and family caregivers of elderly survivors of the Holocaust. Our quest is to share information with colleagues around the world and generate discussion about optimum care, unique challenges and innovative responses. Our journey along the internet highway with cyberspace communication continues to be a fascinating and educational one. Caring and responding for aging Survivors of the Holocaust has expanded into caring and responding for aging survivors of early life trauma due to war, which has expanded to caring and responding to survivors of subsequent genocides. In all cases the discussion and the knowledge take place in partnership with the survivors themselves so that any response remains individualised and sensitive.
This edition proudly welcomes input from both the Rwandan and Jehovah Witness communities. The cultures are different, the issues may be different but the legacies of trauma, pain and challenge⦠are all sadly similar. A better understanding of both the differences and the similarities will benefit us all.
This edition is also the first to 'publish' in two languages. We hope that the French content may expand our readership, which would enrich us all. Thanks also to both Jeanne D'Arc Byaje in Toronto and Martin Herskovitz in Israelā¦for letting us all share a glimpse into their souls through their poetry. Judy Cohen of Toronto and Eva David of Los Angeles are both survivors and through their articles, provide vibrant reminders of the versatility and resilience of our clients.
This edition is rich in substance, creativity, diversity, food for thought and most importantly, caring. As always, this e- Journal can be as informative and dynamic as the people involved. Please feel free to comment on the following articles as well as consider suggestions and submissions for future editions.
