I Will Rise Again

Jeanne d'Arc Byaje
Toronto (formerly of Rwanda)

I Will Rise Again

You may wish to silence me
You may wish to see me dead
You may wish to steal my happiness
No matter what your plans are
I will rise again

Are you upset by my laughter?
Are you upset by my "joie de vivre"
Are you upset by my stability
You may wish to put an end to my joy
But I shall rise again

You may envy my move
You may envy my welfare
You may envy my freedom
No matter what your evil wishes are
I shall rise again

Does it bother you if I refuse to give up
Does it bother you if I refuse to play your game
Does it bother you if I refuse to die
No matter how upsetting this might appear
I shall rise again

You might wish to divide my people
You might wish to fade away my memory
You might try to corrupt me
No matter what your ways are I will rise again.

I AM ALIVE

I am alive
Shouldn't that be a cool sensation?
I am alive
Shouldn't I be filled WITH joy?
I am alive
Shouldn't I celebrate the gift of life?

But here I am
Full of guilty conscience
Here I am
Regretting to have been spared
Yes here I am
Envying the departed ones
Yes here I am
Wishing to be dead
Isn't that an odd feeling?

I am alive
Why is that?
Am I "unkillable"?
I am alive
Why is that?
Am I "undyable"?
I am alive
Why is that?
Am I "unfinishable"?
I am alive
Why is that?
Am I unbeatable?

Maybe, Maybe not
To be unbeatable
It is all up to me
To become death-resistant
It is my sole will
To rise from the dead
The choice is mine
To become alive
It is my sole goal

I am alive
I am unbeatable
I am death-proof
Yes, I am death-resistant

Simply because
I've been spared for a reason
Simply because
I am entrusted with a mission
Simply because
I am holding lives FOR future generations
