Rotman Research Institute Scientist Awarded ‘Canada Research Chair’

Toronto, ON -- Dr. Christo Pantev, a world-renowned neuroscientist with The Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest Centre, has been awarded a prestigious Canada Research Chair.

As Canada Research Chair of Human Cortical Plasticity, University of Toronto, Dr. Pantev will use state-of-the-art magnetic scanning technology (based at the Rotman Institute) to study how the brain is functionally organized, how it changes over the lifespan, and evaluate brain recovery and rehabilitation after stroke.

Dr. Pantev joined the Rotman Institute last January and is considered a "pioneer" in recording magnetic signals (faint charges of energy) from the brain. His research has been published in major scientific journals such as Science and Nature and caught the attention of TIME magazine.

"The brain doesn’t give up its secrets easily. We are only at the door," says Dr. Pantev.
