Toronto, ON - Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care received “extraordinarily high” marks and full three-year accreditation from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) in June.
All Canadian teaching hospitals are required to undergo an evaluation of their health services every three years to ensure they meet national standards.
Baycrest received an average rating of 6 out of a possible score of 7 in the 22 quality indicators. According to the CCHSA report, this is “extraordinarily high”—indicating Baycrest met or exceeded the nationally-accepted quality standards for Canadian health care organizations.
Accreditors commended Baycrest’s Board of Directors for its passion and commitment and praised Baycrest Centre for its strong focus on quality of care as well as its commitment to education and internationally-renowned research.
In addition, Baycrest was recognized for three good practice models that are examples for others to follow. They are the Wednesday Walk Rounds conducted in Behavioural Neurology, involving clients, physicians and the health care team; the Warfarin protocol, developed for use with elderly individuals, and currently in use across Baycrest; and the Baycrest Balanced Scorecard which is a quarterly report of specific indicators of quality from the perspective of the client, clinician, finance, education and development.
“It is because of our staff’s commitment to excellence and their compassion for our clients that Baycrest has achieved the high standards of quality programs and services,” says Baycrest President and CEO Stephen W. Herbert.
