"Baycrest is a communications hub to provide this expertise right across Ontario"
Mike Colle, Hon. Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
Aug. 2, 2005 announcement at Baycrest
Ontario's Minister of Citizenship and Immigration visited Baycrest Aug. 2 to announce $500,000 in funding to support two research projects at Baycrest that aim to improve the care of seniors. One project will study the economic feasibility of an internet-based support program for isolated caregivers in the community who are looking after a loved one with a progressive dementia. The second research project will share Baycrest's expertise in 'improving drug prescribing for seniors and reducing adverse side effects' with primary care physicians in the community. Baycrest has also been named a member of the province's newly-created Seniors' Health Research Transfer Network, an initiative to promote the development and sharing of best practices related to aging-related diseases and long term care. Standing with the Hon. Minister are from left: Dr. Gordon Winocur, vice-president of Research at Baycrest; Dr. Paula Rochon, senior scientist and geriatrician; Fran Sonshine, chair of Baycrest's Board of Directors; Hon. Minister Mike Colle, MPP (Eglinton/Lawrence); Stephen W. Herbert, president and CEO of Baycrest; and Alison Sellors, social work graduate and research assistant.
