Toronto, ONT – Baycrest and the NHL Alumni Association have joined forces to offer serious hockey fans with serious cash a chance to bid on several dream experiences with Toronto Maple Leaf alumni and other retired NHL players, as part of eBay’s hottest new fundraiser, Auctions for Action™ Canada.
Baycrest, one of the world’s premier academic health sciences centres, focused on aging and diseases of the brain, is one of 11 charitable organizations selected by eBay Canada to be part of a new fundraising initiative that taps into the latest trend in giving – “thrill-anthropy”.
“Working with our NHL alumni partners, Baycrest has put together a tempting package of once-in-a-lifetime experiences for hockey fans,” says Mark Gryfe, Baycrest Foundation President. “It’s about having a thrilling experience and knowing that you’re helping a great cause at the same time.”
Up for grabs are private lunches with hockey greats Doug Gilmour, Guy Lafleur, Wendel Clark, Lanny MacDonald and Bob Probert; a one-hour game for an adult recreational hockey team against the Toronto Maple Leafs alumni; a seven-night all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic with Paul Coffey and legendary enforcers Dave Schultz, Dave Hutchison and Bob Probert; and a $25,000 team registration spot in next year’s sold-out 3rd Annual Baycrest Pro-Am Hockey Tournament with NHL alumni.
“The NHL Alumni Association is proud to team up with Baycrest to raise funds for research that will help the growing number of Canadians suffering memory loss caused by stroke, Alzheimer’s and depression,” says Mark Napier, former NHLer and executive director of the association. “These are major illnesses that touch almost every family.”
“eBay Canada is very excited to have Baycrest with the NHL Alumni Association as one of our 11 exceptional charities for this auction," says Jordan Banks of eBay Canada. “Auctions for Action mixes fun with charity by offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences that benefit non-profit organizations across Canada."
