American brain fitness scientist and author Dr. Gary Small paid a visit to Baycrest on Oct. 7, 2008 to talk about what the future holds for more effective diagnostic tools and early intervention treatments for people at greatest risk of developing Alzheimer's. Brain scans to detect early-risk markers for Alzheimer's may one day become a normal part of the clinical checkup just as blood tests are for cholesterol, said Dr. Small, Director of the UCLA Memory and Aging Research Centre at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behaviour. His latest book, iBrain: Surviving the Technological Alteration of the Modern Mind, hits store shelves this month.
