KLARU

Nursing research projects at KLARU

The Nursing Scientist in KLARU is Laura Wagner, PhD, RN. Laura's research focuses on improving safe nursing care processes in long-term care settings. In other words, she is studying how we can improve HOW nurses deliver safe care to residents in nursing home settings. This study has been funded by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.

In addition to this study, Dr. Wagner is also funded by the American Nurses Foundation to explore nurses' attitudes towards the culture of safety in Canadian and American long term care settings. She has three baccalaureate nursing students working with her on the research.

Nurses can become involved in Laura's research by participating in special forums. Her hope is that through open discussion nurses can learn from the experience of others. A culture of safety promotes communication with families, teamwork and resident-focused care.
