Occupational therapists at Baycrest work with older adults and their families or caregivers through a variety of Baycrest programs.
Depending on the patient's capabilities and interests, occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping older adults do those activities of daily living that have become difficult or impossible to do because of age-related changes, disorders, or disability.
Our focus is to help our clients and their support networks achieve their occupational goals -- be it physical, cognitive, psychosocial or spiritual. We also focus on the persons' environment and work to remove barriers and make it as safe and supportive as possible.
When possible, OT enables patients to regain enough function to continue living at home. If institutionalization is necessary, OT can enhance function there.
OT conducts a thorough assessment to assist the individual to identify his or her personal goals, which we use to guide further assessment and treatment.
