The Baycrest Mobility and Seating Clinic provides seating services to community based seniors (55 years and older, who live in the catchment area between Highway 7 and St. Clair Avenue, Keele Street and Bayview Avenue) as well as Baycrest inpatients who require assessment and prescription of manual and power wheelchairs and/or related wheelchair seating systems.
The clinic is staffed by occupational therapists who have extensive experience with the older adult population. Seating services include a comprehensive seating assessment with particular focus on comfort and safety, postural support and pressure relief, functional mobility and environmental access.
The occupational therapist will provide a prescription, which may include a new wheelchair, or modifications to a current wheelchair. The occupational therapists works closely with the client’s vender of choice and as part of the treatment process, opportunity is given to trial equipment.
Fee:
Service is covered by OHIP for hospital in-patients only. Outpatient fees are $100.00 for a manual wheelchair assessment and $150.00 for a power mobility assessment.
