Counselling
All Baycrest social workers are trained to provide counselling.
Counselling offers older adults or their family members the opportunity to talk about problems in a confidential and independent setting. Issues causing distress may be personal, emotional, physical or a combination. You may be worried about yourself or a loved one. Your concerns may have to do with events in the past, they may be about changes in the present or be about future plans. Under excessive stress, hasty decisions may be taken and regretted. Counselling can help to clarify thoughts and feelings, and help you make more informed decisions. Social work addresses the barriers, inequities and injustices that exist in society. It responds to crises and emergencies as well as to everyday personal and social problems. Social workers utilize a variety of skills, techniques, and activities to help find solutions to these problems. Social workers may also be able to provide information about further resources and services that would be helpful.
