Advocacy

Baycrest's core values are based on CARE:

Compassion
Advocacy
Respect
Excellence

The social workers work with clients and family members to keep these values at the core of all our services.

Advocacy is essential in promoting change and socially responsible choices that are sensitive to the needs of the elderly. This is best achieved through a strong collective voice of clients, families, staff, volunteers and community partners.

Advocacy is something that your social worker may do to support you. It is about:

  • safeguarding people who are in situations where they are vulnerable;
  • speaking up for, or standing alongside, people who are not being heard;
  • enabling people to make informed choices about, and remain in control of their own social and health care.

Social workers will advocate on your behalf as well as for services, programs and communities that will support older adults. Click here to see how the Ontario Association of Social Workers have advocated on behalf of seniors in long-term care.
