Student volunteers brighten the halls

It‘s not just the yellow t-shirts worn by 200 youth volunteers that brighten up the day for Baycrest clients, it is their smiles, energy and eagerness to help. Year round, youth volunteers between the ages of 13 and 24 visit with clients, assist in programs, play chess, cards, sing, play musical instruments, decorate the halls with holiday arts and so much more.  They also help staff in a variety of administrative work. Here, occupational therapist Jackie Partnoy gives hands-on instruction in wheelchair use to a group of youth volunteers at the summer orientation held yearly in June.


About the Youth Volunteer Program

The Youth Volunteer Program runs year-round. 

The Fall/Winter Program runs from September to June.  Volunteers are expected to make at least a 6 month commitment depending on when they start.  Interviews can be arranged after having completed the Orientation, Application, TB Test and References. (Download forms)  Orientations run regularly so call or email the volunteer office to register for an orientation at a time suitable for you.

The Summer Volunteer Program starts in May and runs through to September. 

University students may book an interview after having completed their Application, TB Test and References (download forms).  Their summer commitment must be at least one month or as arranged with their supervisor. They will then be registered for an orientation on Tuesday April 29 in the evening or Tuesday May 6 in the morning. Only registered volunteers may attend.

High School Students who will volunteer for the summer may book an interview after having completed their Application, TB Test and Reference (download forms).  Their commitment must be at least one month or as arranged with their supervisor.  They will be registered for the Summer Orientation on Thursday June 26th.  Only registered volunteers may attend.
