Summer Outings
Spend a beautiful summer day with an elderly client at a garden, beach, farm or shopping centre! If you are mature, friendly and enthusiastic, choose to share it with someone in a summer program.
Volunteers will provide companionship to Day Centre members who are the well, physically frail & mildly cognitively impaired elderly living in the community. Volunteers will be orientated to the program and supervised.. Yiddish, Russian and Hebrew language skills would be an asset.
Music and Concerts
If you love music and wish to help a client enjoy it, choose to become a part of the music program. You can be a strolling musician and perform for a small group of clients or escort clients and be a friendly companion for a concert. In order to escort you must be able to push a wheelchair, speak fluent English and work independently.
Creative Arts
Creative expression is one of the most healing activities that people can engage in --- with your assistance. We need you to help our clients enjoy pottery, knitting, crocheting and painting in Arts and Crafts. With your responsible manner and good humour, you will be responsible for escorting the clients to the Creative Arts room, assisting the clients in artistic creation during the program, as well as set-up and clean-up. Multiple languages are an asset.
Bingo and Active Games
Volunteers who are friendly, outgoing, energetic and dependable can escort and assist our clients, one-to-one, during games and fun programs.

Exercise Programs and Walking Programs
Escort clients to and participate in various exercise programs or accompany clients on walks. Volunteers must be able to push a wheelchair.
Gift Shop
Do you have good customer service skills? You would be assisting people to send touches of beauty and goodwill into each other's lives at the beautiful Gift Shop. Volunteers need to assist customers making their selection, operate the cash register and set up the merchandise display.
Administration
If you are the organized type, Baycrest awaits your computer and administrative skills. You would file historical research of the older records and operate computer work. Training on the fax/photocopy/filing system is provided. Having experiences in hospital administrative duties can be an excellent asset for you if you intend to pursue a future in healthcare.
Religious Services
Help clients fulfill one of people's deepest needs --- spiritual need. You do not need to follow any particular faith, as full training and orientation will be provided. However, the ability to communicate in Hebrew/Russian/Yiddish would be a huge asset. You will help to prepare for the religious program, call clients, arrange prayer books and assist during the program.
Research Assistant
Gain valuable experience in research, contribute to studies and boost your academic profile. You need to have computer knowledge and good communication skills software training will be provided. You will be responsible for collecting data, searching on the web, and interview nursing directions.
Friendly Visiting
Provide one-on-one social and emotional support as you spend quality time regularly with a client. Recommended for volunteers who are already enrolled in programs. Inquire for details.
Ice Cream Parlour
Enjoy socializing with clients and their family while you scoop out ice cream and assist with games. You will need to porter and escort clients and participate in games as required. Some feeding may be asked of you. You will need good customer service skills, and a great sense of fun!
Summer Slush
Become one of the principle attractions of the Baycrest summer! Several of you will be together to make signs/posters, decorate the Slush cart, and serve slush to clients in the hot gardens. You duty is to ensure that clients stay well-hydrated against the heat, and have them enjoy your presence. Interact with clients and visitors to make the program festive and fun, and we invite you to bring friends along to volunteer together!
Web Design
A new program is seeking talented youth to be its designer. If you have knowledge of web design and digital information, we ask for your skill to create a web site for Visiting Volunteers and maintain their communication on it. This is a one-month project with flexible timing.
