Artist in residence
As part of our department’s vision to grow the Professional Arts at Baycrest, we are very proud to host the Artist in Residence program which integrates professional artists of different mediums into our clinical programs, educational initiatives and across the Baycrest community.
The goal of this program is to help encourage and discover the unique story of each person we serve and to humanize the health care environment through the universal language of art. Artists bring a different perspective into a health setting, one that can remind us of the importance of creativity, imagination and the need to create spaces for ongoing reflection of our understanding of health, aging and the human condition.
Since the program’s launch two years ago we have introduced visual artists, dancers and a story teller in residence. With the guidance of an artist-in-residence, elders have the opportunity to rediscover their creativity, increase their connections with others, learn new skills and partake in purposeful recreation.
