These are usually a full day commitments. Volunteers help with registration, setting up, escorting the residents, and helping to make sure the event runs smoothly. Some events may take place outside of Baycrest (e.g. Trip to Vaughan Mills with the residents).
Administrative volunteers assist a department (i.e. Baycrest Foundation, Volunteer Services) with data inputting, answering phone calls to address questions and concerns, filing, and working on department specific tasks and general administrative duties.
Baycrest volunteers will work alongside professionals at Baycrest and take part in the research that they are conducting.
It is advised to contact professionals yourself first to see if there are any opportunities.
If you are interested in working alongside a scientist, a list the scientists at the Rotman Research Institute can be found here: http://research.baycrest.org/scientists
The newly implemented Learning Management System provides staff and volunteers at Baycrest an online system to complete the courses they are required to complete, as well as any other courses to improve their knowledge. Once trained, LMS ambassadors provide workshops for staff at Baycrest to introduce the system, and help them navigate it, ensuring that they are able to complete all required courses. LMS ambassadors develop communication and presentation skills while connecting with staff throughout the facility.
The Anne and Louis Pritzker Wellness Library is a free lending library of seniors consumer health resources. The Resident Client Library is the leisure reading section with a collection of fiction and non-fiction books available for residents to borrow. The libraries are open Monday-Thursday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The library assistant will carry out:
• Marketing to increase awareness of Library Services by writing a weekly blog
• Library Programs for Baycrest residents and visitors (ex. tech help day – set people up with email and teach them how to use it)
• Provide support to library volunteers (ex. ensure they check library email, tech help)
Assist with set-up, serving refreshments and socializing with residents and members.
