Accessibility Support and Services

At Baycrest, we provide a wide range of assistive devices and accessibility support to clients and visitors. 

Wheelchairs 

Courtesy wheelchairs are available at all main entrances. 

For assistance, phone Security at 416-785-2500 ext. 2050. 

Assistive listening devices 

We offer the following tools to help people with hearing loss: 

  • Small, portable amplifiers called Pocketalkers  
  • Amplifiers on pay phones, taxi phones and information phones 
  • A TTY pay phone outside the hospital cafeteria 
  • Health & Wellness Information Centre computers with amplifying headphones 
  • Sign language interpreters to support medical care or services 
  • Public TVs with closed captioning enabled by default

Other accessibility devices 

One elevator in each bank automatically stops on all floors for Sabbath observance. 

Client lifts (portable and ceiling-mounted) are available in client rooms and care areas. 

Service animals 

Service animals are welcome in all public areas of Baycrest, including food service areas, such as the cafeteria and W.A. Café. However, they are not permitted in food preparation areas. 

We ask Baycrest staff to: 

  • Not separate a person from their service animal 
  • Not touch, feed or distract a service animal without permission 
  • Not provide care for a service animal while performing health-related duties

 

Support persons 

Clients and visitors are welcome to bring a support person with them to any Baycrest program or service. If there is a fee for a support person to attend a program, it will be clearly posted in advance.
