Brenda Hogan
Brenda M. Hogan is the Chief Investment Officer at Venture Ontario, a type of sovereign wealth fund, and has over 20 years’ experience in strategy and execution in private equity at the co-investment, fund of funds, and fund level investing. She oversees the $600M + investment portfolio, with a focus on strategy, origination, execution, portfolio management, and stakeholder relations. Brenda has managed assets across sectors including IT software and services, life sciences, and cleantech. She has held senior roles in corporate development, finance, and strategic investing with Bell Canada, EY, the Business Development Bank of Canada, and a software start-up. Her board experience is extensive - she sits on the Board of the Canadian Venture Capital Association and is a co-founder of the Private Capital Board Governance Program; served with the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA); served three terms on the Board of Women in Capital Markets, serving as Chair of the Governance Committee; was Chair of Canadian Women in Private Equity (CWPE); is a past Chair of the Board and President of the Junior League of Toronto; was Chair of the Board of Governors of OCAD University, and served on the Board of Governors at Dalhousie University as Chair of the Finance, Audit, Investment, and Risk Committee. Brenda holds an MBA in finance; is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors SME Board Effectiveness Program; and has received leadership training from the Ivey School of Business.
Hogan is a recipient of the Amethyst Award in recognition of her work with Venture Ontario, which transformed the province’s venture capital program from one that was reliant on tax credits to one driven by market-based returns.
She is frequently sought as a speaker at investment conferences and on board governance matters.
