Baycrest

Dr. Shayna Rosenbaum is a Cognitive Neuroscientist and Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Department of Psychology at York University and Adjunct Scientist at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest since 2005. She is a Distinguished Research Professor and York Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience of Memory, Scientific Director of the joint York-Queen’s University Canada First Research Excellence Fund “Connected Minds” Program and past Director (interim) of the Centre for Integrative and Applied Neuroscience. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2004 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rotman Research Institute in 2005. Combining the patient-lesion method with functional neuroimaging and innovative cognitive paradigms, she has made important discoveries in characterizing the neurocognitive basis of remote spatial memory, episodic memory and related non-mnemonic abilities. Her work is important for its implications for aging and clinical populations and for its theoretical insight into hippocampal-neocortical function. She has harnessed this knowledge to develop strategies to help individuals overcome memory loss. Dr. Rosenbaum’s research has been recognized by awards from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Canadian Association for Neuroscience, Canadian Society for Brain Behaviour and Cognitive Science and International Neuropsychological Society. She is an inaugural member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada.
