Student Placements
At Baycrest, we offer a wide range of placement experiences for students. Students will gain hands-on experience and learn from experts in their fields.
Please note that requests for placement must be submitted by your university or college. We do not accept requests directly from students.

Affiliation agreements
To participate in a placement, your academic institution must have a current affiliation agreement with Baycrest. You can contact your academic institution directly to check if your school has an agreement.
If there is no affiliation agreement, a written request from your institution should be sent to the Centre for Education and Knowledge Exchange in Aging at least three months before the placement start date.
How to get started with your placement
Nursing students
More than 700 nursing students learn and develop clinical skills at Baycrest each year.
Placement requests are sent by your school to Baycrest nursing contacts.
Schools are notified via email or HSPNet. Institutions without HSPNet should complete the Nursing Placement Form (PDF) and email it to [email protected].
The timelines for nursing placements are as follows:

Medical students and residents
Requests for clinical rotations or electives are arranged by your institution and coordinated with the relevant discipline contact (PDF).
Visiting elective students and residents (who are not from the University of Toronto) must register with the University of Toronto’s Visiting Electives Office (medical students) or Postgraduate Medical Education Office (residents).
Other health disciplines students
Placement is arranged by your institution with the appropriate discipline contact (PDF).
Non-clinical students
Academic institutions can arrange for non-clinical placements by emailing [email protected].
When your placement has been approved, you will receive an email with a login ID and temporary password to NirvSystem, Baycrest’s student registration system.
Follow the emailed instructions to register. Registration must be complete before your first day.
If your school has not confirmed your placement, please contact your placement coordinator immediately.

On your first day at Baycrest, you will have an on-site orientation that includes:
- A tour of Baycrest
- Getting your ID badge and locker
- Getting set up for any other required access
Your first day responsibilities include:
- Submitting required documents to Academic Education
- Purchase parking pass (if needed)
- Financial Services, 2nd floor (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- Students are responsible for all transportation and parking costs
- Please park in the main parking lot
- Complete other required training (e.g., Meditech, PCC)
