Current Status of “COVID+ CONFIRMED” cases at Baycrest

Fall/Winter 2021

In response to the climbing community spread of COVID-19 and in recognition of the COVID-19 cases in different units within the Apotex, Jewish Home for the Aged, Baycrest has declared an outbreak building-wide to allow our staff to apply preventative outbreak control measures across the all floors and units even when there are no active cases on a particular unit.

NOTE: The resident case previously reported at the Terraces on Sept. 18 has since been determined to have been a false positive and has been removed from the COVID+ Confirmed Cases

** Staff who are confirmed COVID+ are self-isolating in their own homes.

***Resolved: Based on the time-based approach that is supported by laboratory and epidemiologic studies, which indicate that cases stop being infectious after a certain period of time. For those with mild to moderate illness, this period is 10 days from symptom onset (or specimen collection date in asymptomatic cases). For those with severe illness (for example, requiring ICU level of care), the period is 20 days.

Once the appropriate period of time has passed, isolation is discontinued for client cases and staff can return to work once they have been symptom free for 24 hours.

    * Resolved: Previously lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 that are afebrile (no fever) and had two consecutive negative tests (swabs) obtained at least 24 hours apart.
