Falls Prevention Program
The Falls Prevention Program is a series of free classes that help older adults maintain their strength and balance to prevent falls.
The program includes:
- Lessons on fall prevention topics
- Strength-building exercises
- Balance activities
The classes are run by a kinesiologist and occupational and physical therapy assistants.
Our program is open to people 65 or older who have either fallen in the past 12 months or have concerns about balance or mobility and a fear of falling.
We run classes at Baycrest and in other buildings in the wider community.
The most effective way to minimize the risk of a fall includes many factors. However, if you can only choose one thing, the best is exercise.”
– Nicole Campbell, Falls Preventions Program Kinesiologist

The first 30 minutes of each class will include learning about fall prevention topics like:
- Identifying risk factors for falling
- Movement strategies
- Environmental factors to be aware of
- Fall recovery
The second part of the class will include strength-building exercises and balance activities set to lively music.
