Hospital Room Options
At Baycrest, all patients receive the same high standard of care. Since some patients prefer more privacy, we offer three different room options.
You can choose from the following:
- Standard ward: Four beds in a room with a shared bathroom
Covered by OHIP
- Semi-private room: Two beds in a room with a shared bathroom
Additional fee applies
- Private: One bed in a room with its own bathroom
Additional fee applies
Please note that in addition to room fees, there are also co-payments applied to Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care stays.
A co-payment is a daily charge that is set by the Ontario Ministry of Health to help pay for non-medical services like meals and accommodations. This is different from the fees for semi-private or private rooms.
Some patients may be eligible for reduced co-payments based on income.

How to request a room
You will have the chance to make a room choice during or shortly after your admission.
A member of our finance team will explain the different room options and ask about your preference. You will also be asked to:
- Review our hospital admission package
- Provide a credit card or void cheque for monthly payments
We always try to give you the room of your choice. However, room assignment also depends on availability and your medical needs.
If your preferred room is not available
If the room you chose is not available, you will be given a temporary room.
If your temporary room costs less than the room you asked for, then you will pay the lesser rate. You will only be charged for the room you stay in.
If you requested a ward room, but were temporarily given a private or semi-private room, we will move you as soon as a ward bed is available. You won’t be charged for the higher cost room. However, if you choose to stay in the private or semi-private room, then you will be charged for the room from the first day of your stay.
