Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care

Baycrest is a host organization for the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (Ontario CLRI) which is funded by the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

The purpose of the Ontario CLRI is to strengthen the quality of life and care for residents across the province. It does this by providing education and sharing research and innovations to enhance the health and well-being of people who live and work in long-term care.

At Baycrest, we offer several innovative educational initiatives and resources that will help integrate evidence-informed approaches into long-term care.

Education and training programs

Specialized Educator Certificate in LTC

This is a free, online certificate program for long-term care team members who plan, coordinate or deliver education. It focuses on meaningful, relationship-based education centred on values, strengths and fostering growth.

Preceptor Resource and Education Program in Long-Term Care

This program provides funding and support to strengthen and expand clinical student placements. Long-term care homes can enroll to access guidance, resources and funds for placement coordination.

LIPHA: Learning Inter-Professionally Healthcare Accelerator

This is an online simulation and game-based learning platform that helps health-care learners build real-world skills through interactive cases and teamwork. Developed by the Ontario CLRI at Baycrest with academic and industry partners, it offers flexible, high-quality training that is accessible anytime, anywhere.

Interprofessional Internship in Innovation and Aging in Long-Term Care

This is a paid hybrid internship that brings health-care students together to explore a future in older adult health care, network with future and current health-care providers and shape their current practice.

Dementia Care Preparedness Initiative

This is an initiative that helps long-term care homes strengthen and plan their dementia care services while contributing to a province-wide effort to enhance the quality of life for residents, care partners and care teams. Participating homes receive personalized reports, sector insights and guidance to support improvement.

Behavioural Support Rounds

Baycrest Behavioural Support Rounds are open to all health professionals and students. They provide a learning forum to review leading practices in assessing and managing challenging responsive behaviours, as demonstrated by individuals living with dementia.

Accessible through Zoom, these rounds are co-sponsored by the Baycrest Toronto Cenral – LHIN Behaviour Support for Seniors Program and the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care at Baycrest.

These rounds are offered from October until June on the third Thursday of the month from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This work is supported in part with funding from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care hosted at Baycrest Academy for Research and Education. The views expressed herein do not necessarily reflect the views of the Province.
