Simulation and Virtual Learning Project Highlights

The following educational projects are examples of successful initiatives our team has led.

VBM e-learning

Our team partnered with the clinical team delivering Baycrest’s Virtual Behavioural Medicine (VBM) program to develop a free e-learning course introducing VBM to families and caregivers of people living with dementia.

Defy Dementia

Defy Dementia is an exciting new podcast hosted by Jay Ingram (Canadian author and broadcaster) and Dr. Allison Sekuler (President and Chief Scientist, Baycrest Academy for Research and Education, and the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation) dedicated to helping listeners reduce their dementia risk. The Centre for Education is part of the Baycrest Academy team producing the podcast and leads the development and curation of infographics, animated videos and related resources to complement the podcast and help listeners take control of their brain health.

Apsen Tree

When Baycrest worked with The Aspen Tree to establish Thailand’s first premier healthy living community for older adults, the Centre for Education was engaged to create a staff education program. Drawing on principles of interprofessional education, teamwork, healthy aging, relationship-centered care, and best and emerging practices in residential living, we designed a curriculum that brought together all customer service and health-care staff for collaborative learning on how to work with and care for older adults.

Possibilities by Baycrest™ learning and growth experience

Possibilities by Baycrest™ is a new memory care model that combines Baycrest’s clinical care expertise with its state-of-the-art training capacity, research and evaluation capabilities. It aims to show how to provide the highest quality, person-centered, evidence-based care program for those living with dementia and other memory considerations. The Possibilities by Baycrest™ model focuses on the resident’s experience, prioritizing autonomy, choice, purpose and connections. It also stresses the health and quality of life of caregivers in these areas. This new model of care is introduced to staff using a new gamified learning platform that blends storytelling with simulations and delivers an innovative and interactive learning experience.
