Simulation Activities in Gerontological Education (SAGE)
Simulation Activities in Gerontological Education (SAGE) is our premiere simulated participant program. In this unique, geriatric-focused simulation program, trained volunteers portray patients, clients, family members or health-care providers. These volunteers (known as simulated participants) perform their role within the framework of a learning scenario designed to meet specific curriculum objectives.
This gives educators and learners the chance to learn, assess and refine skills like:
- Communication
- Interviewing
- Assessment
- Other interprofessional competencies
The SAGE program supports a wide variety of educational programs to promote care that is responsive to the social, cultural and health system contexts within gerontological care. One of the challenges in Ontario is that very few simulated participant programs exist, especially in geriatrics. Baycrest’s SAGE program uniquely fills that gap and positions us as a leader in the field of simulation.
