Environmental Conservation Planning

Environmental Conservation Planning

At Baycrest, Environmental Conservation Planning is a strategic effort to reduce our environmental impact. We aim to produce less waste, conserve water and energy, reduce emissions and adopt sustainable technology in our everyday operations.

The Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) Plan outlines the specific actions and measures that Baycrest will take to promote good stewardship of our environment and community resources in the years to come. The plan also looks at future projections of energy consumption and reviews past conservation measures.

In keeping with our values of efficiency, concern for the environment and financial responsibility, this plan describes how the hospital will reduce overall energy consumption, operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions. By following those measures, we will be able to provide compassionate service to more people in the community. This ECDM Plan is written in accordance with sections 4, 5, and 6 of the recently amended Electricity Act, 1998, O. Reg. 507/18.

Green Hospital of the Year award

Baycrest has received the 2022 Green Hospital Scorecard Award from the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care in the non-acute peer group. This award honours our efforts to reduce our ecological footprint, prepare for climate change and enhance our resilience in order to better deliver compassionate care to our community.

This was Baycrest’s first year participating in the scorecard, and we received a silver designation. We are also working on a five-year Energy Conservation Demand Management Plan to set targets to further reduce energy, water and gas use.

The Green Hospital Scorecard is Canada’s only tool that measures health-care environmental performance. After reporting our sustainability initiatives, we received results in a summary that show our ratings in the various categories and in comparison to our peers.
