Best Practice Spotlight Organization

Best Practice Spotlight Organization

In 2015, Baycrest was proud to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO), a designation registered by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. This honour is given to health-care organizations that use the best available evidence to improve care and outcomes for residents, patients and families.

This was made possible by the dedication of interprofessional teams, including nurses, physicians, therapists, pharmacists, personal support workers, social workers, educators and many others. Together, they successfully implemented best practice guidelines across the organization, strengthening quality and safety in care.

Our commitment as a BPSO designate

As a BPSO designate, Baycrest is formally committed to implementing and sustaining evidence-based practices to improve care. Our obligations include:

Implementing best practice guidelines

We use evidence-based guidelines in everyday care to ensure the highest quality for our residents.

Evaluating and monitoring impact

We track outcomes to see how well our practices improve safety, health and quality of life.

Sustaining and spreading excellence

We maintain high standards and share our successes to inspire better care across the health-care system.

Engaging staff, patients and families

We build champions and partners in care by engaging our teams, patients and residents, and families.

Collaborating with RNAO

We work closely with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario to guide and support continuous improvement.

Best practice guidelines at Baycrest

Our commitment to high-quality, evidence-based care is guided by RNAO best practice guidelines (BPG). These are research-informed recommendations that help improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for older adults.

Best practice guidelines:

  • Provide evidence-based direction for safe, effective and compassionate care
  • Ensure care is standardized and consistent across all programs and services
  • Support continuous improvement

We have implemented the following best practice guidelines:

Implementing these ensures patients and residents receive care that is safe, effective and compassionate, while supporting families, staff and the wider healthcare community. Each guideline we adopt reflects our ongoing BPSO commitment to excellence.

Our Best Practice Champions Network

Our Best Practice Champions Network is central to sustaining Baycrest’s BPSO designation. Champions are clinical leaders, volunteers, family members and community participants who bring best practices to life at the point of care.

Champions contribute by:

  • Raising awareness of best practice guidelines, engaging peers and inspiring adoption of evidence-informed practice
  • Supporting implementation by using tools like the Leading Change Toolkit to guide teams from awareness to full integration
  • Role modeling as leaders, advocates, collaborators, communicators, content and context experts, facilitators and mentors
  • Creating a shared identity through BPSO pins, apparel and ceremonies that reinforce pride and collective identity
  • Learning together in workshops, webinars and networking through the RNAO Champions Network
