This month’s resources aim to shed light on eating disorders in older adults. Having a better understanding of the risk factors, symptoms and treatments for eating disorders will help you to have more effective conversations with healthcare providers and make informed decisions for your loved ones, or yourself.
- Eating Disorders in Midlife and Beyond, from the National Eating Disorders Association: This website describes how eating disorders are different in older age and includes a video presentation by professionals in the field.
- Eating disorders in older adults: An overlooked but important issue, from the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal: An online article that explains what to watch for to identify the symptoms early.
- Eating Disorders Don’t Discriminate on the Basis of Age or Gender, from the National Council on Aging: Recounts the story of a woman who experiences an eating disorder later in life and defines the most common eating disorders.
