Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health

Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health

The Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health program offers a range of services related to memory challenges and other cognitive issues in older adults.

We deliver leading-edge neuropsychological clinical services, clinical research, and education and training. We also support other programs throughout Baycrest and beyond with neuropsychological assessments, interventions and consultations.

Our interprofessional team includes psychologists, social workers and behaviour analysts who work together to care for patients in a variety of settings.

Our research is focused on:

  • Normal cognitive aging
  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Adaptive technologies for severe memory impairment
  • Cognitive rehabilitation and behavioural techniques
  • Neuropsychological tools

It’s been deeply meaningful to see my work in memory and aging evolve and reach so many people.

Dr. Angie Troyer, Program Director of Neuropsychology and Cognitive Health

Neuropsychological evaluation

We provide neuropsychological evaluations to assess clients who have been referred internally from other Baycrest programs.

Evaluations may be held in-person or virtually and usually take between two to four hours. You will meet with a psychologist who will:

  • Ask you questions or ask you to write things down
  • Identify any problems with your thinking, memory or movement abilities
  • Work with you and your referring care team to design a treatment plan
  • Follow up with you over time

Behavioural Consultation

The Behavioural Consultation service helps other teams within Baycrest manage responsive behaviours in clients with cognitive impairment.

We focus on non-pharmacological methods, and our service includes:

  • Cognitive and behavioural assessments
  • Designing integrated behaviour care plans, together with the clinical team
  • Advising on education and support for family and caregivers
