Can we help move your research forward? Or accelerate discovery? At the Baycrest Academy, we are pleased to offer value-added research and imaging services to external partners at competitive rates.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Expertise

Baycrest Academy boasts a distinguished legacy as a trailblazer and market leader in neuroimaging. Situated within a state-of-the-art research complex in Canada, we offer an unparalleled array of advanced imaging facilities, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Electroencephalography (EEG), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Magnetoencephalography (MEG). Our technology enables the research community to probe the brain, continue advancing brain health and furthering treatments and prevention of dementia.

Facilities Overview

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI):

  • Our facility features the Siemens 3T Prisma scanner.
  • Researchers gain access to a comprehensive suite of research-oriented sequence packages from Siemens, as well as an array of in-development and third-party research sequences.

Electroencephalography (EEG):

  • Baycrest offers a diverse range of EEG systems, including stationary, multi-channel EEG (e.g., BioSemi, Neuroscan), mobile EEG (e.g., Muse, Cognionics), and the TMS-compatible EEG system Truscan, boasting 128-channel simultaneous measurement capability.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS):

  • Our TMS resources include the Magstim Super Rapid Plus stimulator for rTMS and theta burst paradigms, Magstim Bistim for paired-pulse and single-pulse experiments, Brainsight Neuronavigation system, and the Brainsway H1-coil deep TMS (dTMS) system, utilized in cutting-edge experimental studies targeting depression and dementia.
  • We also offer HD-TDCS capabilities with the Neuroconn 8-channel stimulator, MRI and MEG compatible.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG):

  • Baycrest is among the select organizations worldwide equipped with MEG technology, enabling precise recording of magnetic fields generated by electric brain activity during various cognitive tasks.

Eye Tracking:

  • Our facility features advanced eye tracking technology, including two Eyelink II Eye Trackers from SR Research, renowned for their superior data rate and resolution.

Mobile Testing Units:

  • Mobile testing unit: A van housing a portable neuroscience and biobanking lab, including a portable EEG system, eye tracker and blood-sampling station, expected in 2024.
  • Mobile MRI unit:  A van housing a Hyperfine ultra-low field MRI system will be open for research and clinical use, expected in 2025.

MRI Operating Hours

The MRI facility caters to both internal and external researchers, offering weekday scanning hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with flexible evening and weekend slots available upon request.
