Outdoor Seasonal Programming

baycrest gardening

The purpose of this program is to provide gardening experiences that allow clients to maintain, acquire and use gardening skills as part of a social and multi-sensory experience.

There are two outdoor community gardens located around the Apotex Centre, Jewish Home for the Aged.

We use accessible gardening tables to provide our residents with the opportunity to plant, water, tend and harvest some of the vegetables and herbs. The program is based on a combination of “hands on” experiences in the garden, open discussions and a variety of sensory activities (taste, smell, touch).

Additionally, several floors in the Apotex Centre and the hospital have been participating in their own community gardens on their balconies, planting flowers and vegetables for clients to take care of.
