May 01, 2020 Dear colleagues,

Friday May 1, is Doctors’ Day. Each year, the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) recognizes the outstanding contributions made by the province’s 40,000 doctors to highlight the outstanding work they do to keep everyone healthy.

Though Doctors’ Day occurs every year at this time, this year is not like years past as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, which is an unprecedented time for the health of all Ontarians.

From doing rounds on the floors in our hospital, in the Apotex, or in the Terraces and various clinics on campus, to leading innovation and research efforts, and teaching the next generation of doctors, and being expert and trusted resources on interprofessional care teams, the contributions of our physicians to the well-being of our community are profound and deeply appreciated.

The OMA is asking every Ontarian who is able, to go outside and “Shine A Light” from cellphones or flashlights in recognition of the tremendous efforts being put forth by doctors in our province.

At Baycrest, we too want to shine a light on our exceptional physicians for their steadfast commitment to their patients and residents, and their families.  Simultaneously, we want to recognize the team of committed nurses, PSWs, and other healthcare staff it takes for doctors to do their very best always, and especially at such a difficult time.

It is thanks to our dedicated physicians and other healthcare professionals and your teamwork that we are a centre of excellence in care for our older adult population, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please accept my sincerest thanks for the exceptional work you do and for the passion with which you do it.
