November 10, 2017 Baycrest Health Sciences is proud to be named as one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals as the institution maintained its rank amongst the top ten most research-intensive hospitals.

Across Canada, Baycrest ranked fifth for researcher intensity (the amount of research income per researcher) even with its designation as a small hospital. This is the sixth year in which Baycrest scientists have been recognized in this category. Researchers attracted an average of $535,400 per scientist, an increase of eight per cent from the year before. Donor support from the community partners, companies, non-profits, grant agencies and the government have played a huge role in the success of research at Baycrest.

“Canada is aging faster now than at any time in the past, and we want to ensure older adults not only live long, but live well. The time to prevent Alzheimer’s and related diseases is now, but the only way to tackle the problem is if we fully understand it,” says Dr. Allison Sekuler, Vice-President, Research and the Sandra A. Rotman Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience at Baycrest. “Research at Baycrest covers the full spectrum — from ground-breaking studies uncovering the brain’s mysteries, to improving evidence-based care practices at the bedside, to speeding adoption of cutting-edge technological solutions to help older adults in their homes — our researchers work with one common goal: to add life to years.”
